Estonian History Museum

The antecedents of the History Museum date back to 1802 when the Tallinn Town Council’s chemist Johann Burchard (1776–1838) established his collection Mon Faible (French: My Foible). The collection was inspired by an artistically marbled easter egg, the first item in the collection was a Chinese opium pipe. Burchard’s exhibition in the Black Heads’ Hall in 1822 called Antiquities and Rarities was the first of its kind in Tallinn.
